GCCA, Allies Launch Global Blend Better Cement Campaign

Blend Better Cement

Convening for a Climate Week New York City panel, the Global Cement and Concrete Association (GCCA), along with five material, building and construction technology organizations kicked off an initiative aimed at encouraging government officials the world over to support the use of blended cements.

The Blend Better Cement campaign was the centerpiece of “Scaling Blended Cement for Competitive, Resilient and Low-Carbon Growth,” hosted at the Chrysler Building in midtown Manhattan.

Campaign organizers stress blended cement uptake as the fastest near-term measure to cut carbon dioxide emissions associated with cement and concrete production. Joining GCCA CEO Thomas Guillot in the Sept. 22 panel were Heidelberg Materials Chief Sustainability Officer Dr. Katharina Beumelburg and Mina Hasman, director of Sustainability for Chicago-based architectural/engineering giant Skidmore, Owings & Merrill.

GCCA launched Blend Better Cement with the United Nations Environment Program-hosted Global ABC and Intergovernmental Council for Buildings and Climate; the Cement and Concrete Breakthrough Agenda; the LC3 Project; Systemiq; and ConcreteZero, an initiative under Climate Group, London-based organizer of Climate Week NYC. Climate Group is powering the Blend Better Cement portal.
